🌼🌼 for some reason I can't reply to any DMs right now! I kept getting an error message from OF saying "something went wrong, try again later" this website glitches like crazy. Im a part of a lot of OF creator groups and apparently this problem is not unique to me, its been happening to a lot of people lately. SO, if you're messaging me and im not replying, I am NOT ignoring you- I literally can't send messages. I can read them though. Its only been doing this for about 5 hours so I guess I'll hope for the best tomorrow! Also, if you were expecting a custom from me, its most likely already done because I recorded quite a few today! Story time: I've been dealing with entirely too much over the past couple of weeks.
What would YOU do if you found out your "friend" for nearly a decade had stolen your identity? As in social security #, bank account info, card numbers...
So, we've been friends for years. I never in a million years would have thought this person would do this to me. But I have solid proof and a mountain of evidence I can't ignore. Last week, I had to cancel my debit card because my bank account was compromised and there was unauthorized charges on my card. I thought that would be the end of the issue, id just be more careful from then on and everything would be fine. I don't buy stuff on the internet unless its from reputable, well known websites. I don't give my information to anyone.
Last night I got an alert that my credit score had changed. I have excellent credit. Suddenly it was 15 points lower. I immediately froze my credit and locked my SSN. I printed out my credit reports from the 3 major credit bureaus. I noticed someone had applied for 2 credit cards on January 23rd. I knew it wasn't me. Upon closer inspection, I also noticed that were multiple inquiries from various lending companies. Obviously this freaked me out. I have never applied for any loan in my life.
So I scrutinized the reports. I noticed a new address and phone number had been added to my credit report on the same date that the credit card applications were submitted. I recognized the phone number and address as belonging to a "friend" ive known for nearly 10 years. I was shocked, disgusted, betrayed. But then I started putting the pieces together and kicking myself for not realizing what was going on sooner.
This friend and I live in different cities. He said he wanted to come visit me. He had a lot of air miles, and I paid for the remainder of his flight, which wasn't much. This is how he got my card information- saved on his American airlines account. The flight was booked January 3rd. The same date as all the personal loan inquiries on my credit report.
He also hired me on as an independent contractor to do some work for his company (which I now believe is a bullshit/scam/shell company.) On the 23rd of this month, he said he needed my social security number to issue me a 1099 in order to pay me taxable income. Thats normal. I didn't think anything of it. Whats NOT normal is the two lines of credit he attempted to open on the same day he got my social security info.
He's an idiot. His personal address and telephone number are on my credit report. I never thought he'd do anything like this, even though he has a compulsive gambling problem. I've known him for so long. I guess that doesn't matter though.
There are SO many errors on my credit that I now have to attempt to fix. This could really have screwed up my life and finances if I hadn't caught it so quickly. It might still. I confronted him and he denied it (even when faced with the evidence) and eventually stopped replying to me. Im pretty sure he blocked my number.
I really hate to involve the police in anything, or threaten anyone with prison time or legal trouble, but I feel like I don't have a choice. Hes probably done this before and is sure to do it again. Especially if he's using employment as a guise to steal employees information and use it nefariously. He could lose his company and go to prison for a long time, and it ALMOST makes me feel bad, but he had no qualms about potentially ruining my life.
I already know what I'm going to do and what I need to do. Im just curious how other people would handle this. Feel free to comment below and/or answer the poll.
